I met Dean when I was prepping for filming the graduation ceremony last year. I came into MAD after school to pick up a lens and Dean being the one that managed equipment was there, I had surprisingly never seen or talked to him before that but in our brief conversation I felt seen.
Something I hadn’t felt before hand. He was so kind and interested, asking follow up questions and my opinions on things. We quickly went into a longer discussion about the film program and I remember after he asked me how long I had been editing for (I told him about 6 years) he just smiled and said “I don’t think you’re gonna learn much from that class.” | was a bit taken aback at first, I had been really looking forward to going to it but he soon clarified that he would love to support me in anyway that he could and that I could use the class to learn on my own. I remember responding with “As long as I can make movies for it, that’s all I care about.” When I later took the class, which currently still in, he kept his word. I wish he could have seen our finial narrative film and I wish that I could have learned more from him, he was so educated and had so much to give to others. But I’m proud that he saw our music video, I’m proud that we met even for a short time, and most importantly I’m proud that he believed in me. I won’t stop making movies, rest in peace Dean,
