“Surprising.” That is the singular word Head Coach Greg Zuffelato used to describe this year’s basketball season. “It was supposed to be a rebuilding year, I mean we were supposed to be good but not great and then we ended up going 13-1 in the league,” Coach Zuffelato explained. Overall, the boys went 19-9, winning the Channel League and competing in division one CIF playoffs. Unfortunately, their season was cut short when the team was defeated in the first round. “We have everybody back next year, we don’t lose anybody for graduation so it’s very exciting,” Coach Zuffelato said of next year. He continued, saying that “they are all having a great offseason with their club teams, we start practice for summer this week and they look really really good so it’s going to be fun.” Zuffelato concluded by saying “we should have a historic season next year.” Unfortunately, the season was not as successful for girls basketball as they struggled with a young team going 2-26 and finishing 8th in the Channel League. “We’re a young team so we’re developing and we did as good as we thought we would do,” said Assistant Coach Carlina Gonzalez. Going forward Coach Gonzalez shared her hopes for next year saying, “we’re just going to pick up where we left off and move in the right direction, hopefully get some freshman in and just keep building off that.”
