Led by Coach Ryan Throop, this year was a memorable season for both the girls and boys golf teams.
Having welcomed a number of new golfers to the team, the girls team was the underdog moving into the season. Nonetheless, their perseverance and persistence were nothing short of inspirational as they finished middle in their league overall. The team showed tremendous growth in skill from the beginning of the season to the end, including first-time golfers; freshman Cameron Quinn, and seniors Hannah Hendrick, Milli Hamilton, and Charlie Crane. While the team bonded and grew as one, this was the last year having seniors Hannah Hendrick, Milli Hamilton, Charlie Crane, Sage Malmsten, and Kaya Zeits as a part of the team. The impact these girls had on the girls golf community is unmatched, and will be missed dearly by their coach and team.
The Boys Golf team also showed a substantial amount of grit throughout their season, having a record of 13-2 6-1 Channel League. Marking the end of an impressive season, the boys team finished second in their league, allowing for an excellent last season for graduating seniors Alex Ortega and Jack Alzina, as well as first and last season for seniors Cooper Story, Duke Parker, Aiden McDermott, and Evan Durcey. While not making the playoffs, the impressive scores demonstrated by the team will continue to set the standard for the team as it changes and grows in the absence of the graduating seniors.
Coach Throop sends his athletes off to college with some final words of wisdom; “We’re gonna miss them… they were a big part of our program, and I know they’re gonna do good things. They’re good human beings; not just at golf, but in their day-to-day activities.” He also expresses his hopes for their continuation to play golf in the right way, like he knows they will, if they wish to continue their pursuit of the sport.
