After 30 seasons at SBHS, Track and Field coach Olivia Perdices says this year has been one of the most exciting seasons to date.
According to Perdices, the team has done well “across the board on every event,” and two athletes, Malachi Johnston and Elina Stump, competed at the Masters Meet where Johnston finished his career receiving a state medal and Stump finished her junior year in the top 20 of California. One of the biggest highlights came at the CIF finals, where four SBHS athletes qualified, “two girls and two boys,” she said. Having four finalists is “a lot for Santa Barbara High School,” making it a major accomplishment for the program.
Perdices is already looking ahead to next season and feels confident about what’s coming next for the team. She said SBHS has “a really strong sophomore and junior class” and is excited to continue to build off this year’s success. More than anything, she said it will be fun to watch those athletes “grow and develop” in the seasons ahead.
