On Thursday, Sept. 18, ASB had planned a pep rally located on the football field. In the days leading up to the pep rally, ASB was aware there was a 35% chance of rain, so they had arranged a backup plan in case it had to be shifted. On the night before and that morning, it rained. The football field, where the pep rally was going to take place, was soaked from the rain, and the backup plan was activated.
During first period, it was announced that the pep rally was going to be switched to virtual. An hour later, during Golden Time, all Santa Barbara High School teachers received an email that contained the backup video of all the performances that would have shown up in the pep rally. The video included features from various sports teams such as volleyball, flag football, waterpolo, and football, as well as marching band, the Donettes Dance Team, and choir. Sports captains participated in choreographed dances lip-syncing to music. The Donettes performed twice, a dance and a lip sync number and a choreographed dance number. The choir and band also performed twice, and played music.
The ASB leaders involved in the pep rally’s execution and planning agreed that the pep rally went as best as it could be, considering the conditions. “I just think the circumstances are unfortunate, but overall, I think it went very well,” stated Alondra Granados, an ASB officer. All of the group had admitted it was disappointing that the outdoor rally was cancelled. But luckily, there are more up-and-coming pep rallies. According to Ms. Wooster, the ASB teacher, the next pep rally will be in the winter, and inside the gym, so weather should not be an issue. She remarked, “…because it’s a totally different bell schedule, because the whole school doesn’t fit in the gym, we have to have two separate assemblies.” This means the day of the rally will be different from a normal day of schooling and will have slightly shorter classes and a pep rally viewing instead of homeroom. Overall, although there were weather difficulties, the pep rally was still able to keep school spirit together. Keep a look out for the next pep rally in the winter, and keep the school spirit high, Dons!
