2025 Trends Students are Obsessed With

While some music has been popular for a while, many new songs and albums have come into the  picture this year. From Bad Bunny to Benson Boone, 2025 has been a rollercoaster of genres. 

Sophomore Ishan Pandya guessed “Pink Pony Club” by Chapell Roan was the most popular song of 2025. According to Spotify, “Pink Pony Club “was number eight in the US top 10 songs of 2025. 

Junior Shae Fitzgerald guessed “Birds of a Feather” was this year’s most popular song. In actuality, it took fourth place in the U.S.  and second globally. The song is featured on Billie Eilish’s 2024 studio album Hit Me Hard And Soft, a chart-topping album through 2025.  Students at SBHS are constantly surrounded by music and are always hearing new and returning songs. Many songs dominating charts are streamed in students’ cars on their way to school, or in headphones on the way to class, contributing to the overall music trends as shown through applications like Spotify. 

For fashion around campus, many students have ditched their backpacks in place for tote bags and large purses. Prints like leopard print are big in fabrics along with camouflage, stripes and florals. Denim is back in all colors and styles, especially larger, baggier shapes. Large jackets and blazers are selling out in favor of style over comfort. However, Ugg slippers and flip flops are substituted for sneakers, showing the “cozy chic” aesthetic students know and love. 

It is no surprise Dubai chocolate was a favorite treat of 2025, and matcha is replacing morning coffee. Iced coffees, lattes and matchas are the best-selling item in cafes all over California. TikTok helped spread the popularity of rice cakes, as well as protein dessert bowls, smashburger tacos, cottage cheese, and the ‘whole foods diet of steak, avocado, and eggs.’

The movies and shows on student televisions this year include K-Pop Demon Hunters, Wicked, and Superman. K-Pop Demon Hunters became the most-watched Netflix original film in 2025 and Wicked, too, was one of the most-watched movies across all platforms. In California, The White Lotus, TV show, was a big hit and many students on campus were buzzing over the show that dominated all charts this year. 

Many trends this year were carried over from 2024, but some blew up and broke records. The student body represents all the trends from fashioning Ugg slippers to listening to top artists all over Santa Barbara High School.
