Spotify Wrapped: the Most Listened to Music on our Campus

Spotify is a widely used music platform with dozens of songs to listen to. The platform has a yearly tradition of summing up statistics and data to give users their “Spotify Wrapped.” This is a widely anticipated feature that shows listeners their top artist, album, songs and minutes listened. Students were asked what their data showed about their music taste and what they believe will be the most popular artist across the school. 

Vanessa Reynoso, a student at Santa Barbara High School (SBHS) shares that her top artist was Kendrick Lamar. She says that she finds his music to be poetic with great lyricism. “I like the instrumentals and the lyrics are really poetic.” Sam Morello, a freshman, says her top artist was The Weeknd. “He’s a big vibe and is just like a comfortable person to listen to. I just really like his music.” Kendrick Lamar was brought up a lot by the student body as a top artist. Reynoso says her top song was “Poetic Justice” by Kendrick Lamar. “The thing that stands out to me the most about the song is the poetic lyrics. The song is about being poetic and writing songs, it’s ironic.” Morello shares that her top song was “Fantasy” by Bazzi. “What really stands out is the instrumentals. I just really love the song. My favorite lyric is, “Put some faith in me, take my hand to your fantasy.” 

Tons of different genres of music have flourished throughout the year. The student body has a variety of music tastes ranging from popular to underground . Reynoso says, “I think the schools top artist would be Taylor Swift because Taylor Swift is really popular and I think a lot of people listen to her.” Morello says, “Maybe SZA, because I heard her music like all over the school. The cafeteria was playing it the other day, I heard one of the ladies working playing “All the Stars” and I was so confused.”

There is a very diverse taste in music around the SBHS campus. Other students shared that their Spotify Wrapped top artist was Tyler the Creator and their most listened to songs were a mixture of Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean.
